Version 1.0 — July 2026
1. About the project
Taste Memories is a long-term public archive documenting food memories shared by people across cultures and generations. Its purpose is to preserve, study, and share these memories through research, education, and public engagement.
The project is operated by Kumi Matsushita. If the project is ever transferred to an independent legal entity (such as a foundation, association, or successor organisation), your contribution and personal data will remain governed by these Terms within the project, and you will be informed of any such transfer.
2. What you can contribute
You can share written food memories through the contribution form. In some cases, we may invite you to share photographs or take part in a recorded interview at a later stage.
Please share only your own memories and materials. If your memory involves other people — family members, friends, or people who have passed away — please share it with care and respect.
3. How contributions are used
Your contribution may be stored, preserved, and used for research, education, exhibitions, public presentations, publications, and archival preservation — always as part of the Taste Memories project. This includes presentations of the project’s findings at external conferences, symposia, or events.
Your contribution will not be used in activities that are not part of the project, such as the operator’s other lectures, workshops, or commercial work. No other purposes apply without your renewed consent.
We may make minor edits for clarity, grammar, formatting, translation, or anonymisation while preserving the original meaning. Contributions may also be excerpted.
4. Photographs
Photographs are not collected through the contribution form. If we invite you to share photographs later — by email or during an interview — we will ask you to confirm at that time that you own the photograph or have permission to share it, and that any identifiable people in it have agreed to the image being shared.
You retain the copyright to your photographs. By sharing them, you grant the project a non-exclusive licence to use them for the purposes listed in section 3. We may decline or remove images that raise rights concerns.
5. Anonymity and attribution
By default, all contributions are quoted anonymously. Your name is held for administration only and is never published unless you have chosen otherwise on the contribution form.
If you choose to be identified, we will discuss with you how you would like to be credited. You can change your attribution preference at any time for future uses.
6. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you may withdraw your consent at any time (GDPR Articles 15–17 and Article 7(3)). To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@kumimatsushita.com. We aim to respond within one month.
After withdrawal, we will make no new use of your contribution, and it will be removed from the archive and from any future use. Materials that have already been exhibited or published cannot be retroactively affected.
7. Data storage and retention
We use appropriate service providers to process personal data. Details are described in our Privacy Policy.
Contributions are retained for as long as they continue to serve the archival purposes of the Taste Memories project, unless removal is requested or required by law.
Taste Memories is operated by Kumi Matsushita but managed as a separate project. Its data is kept separate from KumiMatsushita.com and its newsletter, and is not shared with or used by the operator’s other activities. Email addresses collected through the contribution form are used only to manage your contribution and — if you have agreed — to contact you about your memory. They are never added to any mailing list. The project has no newsletter or updates of its own at this time; if this changes in the future, we will ask for your consent separately.
8. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this website. Changes apply to future use of contributions and will not affect your rights under the version of the Terms in force when you submitted your contribution, unless required by law or agreed with you separately. Dated versions of these Terms are kept on record.
